California Penal Code Section 12275 ? 12277
Gives a list of what the state considers characteristics of an ?assault weapon?, which is illegal to sell in the state after
January 1, 2000.  Since the AirSoft products are not ?firearms?, it is still legal to sell them here.

The State of California does not have any code that refers to "Air-soft Guns".
But the US Code does which is applied in California.

US Code: Title 15, Section 5001  (This is the code the over-rules all others)

(a)    Acts prohibited
It shall be unlawful for any person to manufacture, enter into commerce, ship, transport, or receive any toy, look-alike,
or imitation firearm unless such firearm contains, or has affixed to it, a marking approved by the Secretary of
Commerce, as provided in subsection (b) of this section.

(g)   Preemption of State or local laws or ordinances; exceptions
The provisions of this section shall supersede any provision of State or local laws or ordinances which provide for
markings or identification inconsistent with provisions of this section provided that no State shall:
(i)  prohibit the sale or manufacture of any look-alike, nonfiring, collector replica of an antique firearm developed prior to
1898, or
(ii) prohibit the sale (other than prohibiting the sale to minors) of traditional B-B, paint ball, or pellet-firing air guns that
expel a projectile through the force of air pressure.

Code of Federal Regulations (Cite:  15CFR1150)

Sec. 1150.1  Applicability
This part applies to toy, look-alike, and imitation firearms (?devices?) having the appearance, shape, and/or
configuration of a firearm and produced or manufactured and entered into commerce on or after May 5, 1989, including
devices modeled on real firearms manufactured, designed, and produced since 1898?..

Read ALL of this regulation.  It is short and to the point.  It basically states that you have to have an orange strip of the
approved color code that is at least 6 mm wide permanently affixed to the end of the barrel of the gun so that it can be
distinguished by law enforcement as a non-lethal ?gun?.

US Code : Title 18, Section 921
A(3) The term ?firearm? means (A) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may  readily be
converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; (B) the frame or receiver of any such weapon; (C) any
firearm muffler or firearm silencer; or (D) any destructive device. Such term does not include an antique firearm.

________________________________________________________________________________
ACCORDING TO THIS IT STATES THE "AIR-SOFT GUNS" ARE ""LOOK-ALIKE GUNS" AND ARE NOT REAL. WHICH
MAKES THEN LEGAL TO OWN IN CALIFORNIA.
IT ALSO STATES THE "AIR-SOFT" GUNS CAN NOT BE MADE ILLEGAL TO OWN IN ANY STATE (REFER TO TITLE 15
SECTION 5001 OF THE US CODE) IT STATES THAT THIS US LAW OVERSEES ALL OTHER STATE, LOCAL, OR CITY
ORDANENCES!
So this should be enough to prove your case to anyone including Law Enforcement Officers.
You can get another copy straight from a government site on the internet, just searh for "US CODES" and type in "Title
15 Cection 5001" And you can get it off an "Official Site".
